Cutting Red Tape to Make Ontario More Competitive

Ontario’s PC government is cutting red tape, lowering costs and removing unnecessary barriers to make our province one of the best places in the world to invest, grow and create jobs.

Since 2018, Ontario has removed more than 14,000 regulatory compliance requirements, cutting the province’s red tape burden by nearly six per cent and delivering more than $1.3 billion and 1.8 million hours in annual savings.

That means less time filling out paperwork and more time for businesses to invest, expand and create good-paying jobs.

Ontario has the lowest regulatory burden per capita in Canada, helping give businesses the certainty and confidence they need to invest here.

And our progress is being recognized. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business gave Ontario an A grade for red tape reduction for the first time in provincial history.

But there is more work to do.

Ontario is reviewing more than 350 economic development-related permits, with a goal of eliminating or transforming at least 35 per cent of them by 2028. We’re also putting new technology, including AI, to work to find more ways to reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens.

This isn’t about eliminating important rules. It’s about making them work better by removing duplication, unnecessary costs and delays while continuing to protect public safety and the environment.

At a time of global economic uncertainty, our Ontario PC team is making it faster and easier to do business, attract investment and create jobs.

That’s how we’re protecting Ontario and building the most competitive, investment-ready economy in the G7.
